For me, it’s:
We live in a world that is packed with lies. Everywhere. From our government leaders down to the kid next door. Maybe even ourselves . . .
The Sacred Scriptures declare:
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne . . . (Psalm 89:14)
The “Your throne” here means the place of Yahweh the Creator’s reign. His rule is based on justice. On the other hand, this world we dwell in is based on injustice. “Love your neighbour as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18) says the Word of the Almighty. This is a relationship based on social justice. What do you do? We oppress one another. Over and over.
I can’t bear it in my own life, nor in my workplace, nor in my family, community or nation. Injustice is a virus, a rotting, spreading disease. It corrupts, it dehumanises.
Justice, on the other hand, is a fragrance, a sweet smelling savour of liberty and joy. To treat people as equals is to crown the created world with its rightful adornment. To make the world as it was meant to be from Day One.
As I mentioned before, with social justice comes love. Love is not some oozy-goozy meaning. It is not an impulse. It is a movement, a momentum, a belief, a lifestyle, that flows out from both truth and justice. All love NOT based on truth and justice is Snake’s Oil, fakery, the droppings from a bull’s backside. It won’t work. It can’t work.
For truth, justice and love, we can only have the Real Deal. Anything else poisons us. And in this world, we are breathing in poison, metaphorically and literally, every day.
What about you? Do you have the real thing inside of you, flowing out of you? Are you truthful? Do you seek for truth at all costs? Do you expose and oppose lies? Do you live by justice for all around you? Do you seek it as you seek your daily bread? How about love? Is the real kind of love oozing from you, in all its strength and brutal honesty?
I hope so . . .
If you cherish truth, justice and love, you will make some friends, you will make some enemies. You will stand on one side, and against another side. Sometimes your stance may not be so clear, but the mist will evaporate, and you will see more clearly as time goes by.
Live by these core values, and you will find freedom. Die by these core values, and you will find life. They are the essential foundation of the entire universe, and they are near and dear to the Creator’s heart.
May they be near and dear to you also . . .
